The FedEx Cup Playoffs start this Thursday at the Northern Trust Open and there is a lot to look forward to as a golf fan. The world’s best are geared up and ready to compete in the playoffs after what has been an odd year and a half or so in the sport and around the world (to say the least). Golf has been a bright spot throughout this entire excursion and for this we are incredibly thankful.

It turns out no matter what the year entails, the best in the world remain the best regardless of the circumstances. Collin Morikawa leads the FedEx Cup standings after multiple dominant performances over the course of this season, one including his second major title at The Open Championship. Morikawa has a slight lead over Jordan Spieth who finally broke into the win column this year after a nearly unimaginable four-year hiatus. We have seen players like Dustin Johnson, who seemed unbreakable after the 2020 season, slip in his results a little bit but is still positioned 17th in overall standings. This could be a factor in this year’s playoffs. The Man, the Myth, the Legend, Phil Mickelson did it again this year. The 51 year-old proved to all of us that age is truly just a number and won the PGA Championship under conditions that would not normally suit the lefty. If you were to tell us at the beginning of the year that Phil was going to win a major, we would not have put it past him but the outcome was highly unlikely. He had ups and downs this season and currently sits at 58th in the FedEx Cup Standings, despite hitting absolute bombs. We have gone long enough without talking about the World Golf Rankings #1 player Jon Rahm. This guy dealt with quite a bit this season and still managed to play his best golf in spite of all the commotion.  It’s really tough to overlook how solid Jon Rahm is-he’s our favorite heading into the playoffs due to his overwhelming consistency and ability to perform in golf’s biggest moments. You didn’t think we were going to forget about “Protein Shakes” did you? Bryson DeChambeau is good-he really is. Whether that means we think he is going to win or not is up for debate but he definitely has a chance sitting only 261 points behind leader, Collin Morikawa. It all depends on which ‘Bryson’ shows up to the first tee box each and every day. If the PGA Tour really wants to spice things up they will give us the pairing we all want at some point during these playoffs-Brooks vs. Bryson.

Any pick within the top 30 certainly could get the job done over the upcoming weeks in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. We can't wait to watch how it all shapes up and to see who is going to bring home the title when it is all said and done. It’s a great time to be a golf fan. Hopefully the playoffs inspire you to get out there and play!
