The PGA Tour season is finally back in full swing and it all begins with the Sentry Tournament of Champions. We will see last season’s PGA Tour champions take on the Plantation Course at Kapalua in Maui, Hawai’i. The Tournament of Champions is always a breath of fresh air to start the PGA Tour season. While most golf fans in the country are recovering from the holidays and see snow in their backyards, watching the game’s best play in sunny and 75 degree Hawaiian weather is the perfect outlet this week. The field this year is absolutely stacked, with the majority of the best players in the world winning tournaments last year, the first field of the season is almost major esque. Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, Collin Morikawa, Jon Rahm, and Justin Thomas, are all in the field, just to name a few. Harris English also returns as defending champion after last year’s outstanding win over Joaquin Neimann in a playoff. We would not be surprised at all to see the next major champion come from this year’s field. A late addition to the Sentry Tournament of Champions is a man who made the most noise in 2021 according to analytics and the Player Impact Program, Phil Mickelson. Phil quickly mentioned in a post he would be joining the tournament in order to receive the remainder of his earnings for finishing first in the inaugural “PIP” award. This will be an exciting start to the tournament season to say the least. Our pick to win is Justin Thomas, he showed great promise at the PNC Championship a few weeks ago and finished one shot back of the playoff last year. This of course is not the craziest pick of all-time, however from what we have seen recently and his past history at this tournament Justin Thomas has a real shot at finishing at the top of the leaderboard by week’s end. Also, keep an eye out for Brooks Koepka, the last time we saw him play he absolutely dominated Bryson DeChambeau and could return to major championship form in 2022. The “Rainbow State” is in for a great couple week’s of golf and we can not wait to see how the start of 2022 shapes out.
