Hacker’s Guide to the Phoenix Open

Let’s face it - the Waste Management Phoenix Open golf tournament, a.k.a. the greatest show on grass, can be a bit overwhelming to navigate. We’ll show you how to avoid the mess, giving you all the hacks for the best places to park, view, drink and of course - party!

First things first:

Parking
If you park at the course, you'll have to ride a bus another 15-minutes to get dropped off by the gate. It’s miserable. We learned last year that the best parking tip is to leave your car at a nearby shopping center or mall (Scottsdale Quarter) and get an Uber or Lyft to the corner of E. Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard and N. Hayden Road. From here it’s less than a 5-minute walk. This beats the hell out of being crammed in a bus full of drunken strangers.

Looking to actually watch golf?
We applaud you if you are, but stay away from 15, 16, 17 and 18. Just attend the front nine. TPC Scottsdale is a stadium course designed for watching pros play! This is what golf was intended for, so peacefully enjoy the front nine with a cold one in hand.

Want to party?
Golf is our favorite excuse to drink. Hole 16 is the most popular hangout on the course. But like Vegas, we love the nightclubs and hate the lines. This tournament is no different. If you have VIP suite tickets to Hole 16, then do the damn thing. If you don’t, then you can expect to wait your ass in line for hours. Last year people were arriving to the course at 7am just to get into the 16th. Skip it and go straight to the new Bay Club at Hole 17. The beer is just as cold and the golf is actually better! Giveaways
If you are lucky (or patient) enough to make it into the 16th stadium - be ready to catch gear and freebies tossed out by the PGA pros. More specifically, keep an eye out for crowd favorite and Devereux athlete Danny Lee. He'll be tossing dozens of our best selling Devereux G*LF Hats into the stands.

Where to find beer on the course?
Hole 4 – Cold Beer Hole 6 – Cold Beer Hole 7 – Cold Beer and Tacos too! Hole 8 – Cold Beer Hole 9 – Wine bar, food from local Arizona vendors, margaritas and a Dierks Bentley's Whiskey Row, for those of you who dare to indulge in whiskey on the course. Hole 10 – This hole has two beer stops because it is on the way to Hole 16. Make sure you grab a drink here because you will be waiting in line at 16. Hole 12 – Cold Beer Hole 14 – Cold Beer Holes 16-18 – Coldest Beer! Birds Nest Late Night Party Hakkasan and Coors Light are sponsoring the Birds Nest this year. If you know anything about what Hakkasan has to offer, then you know this post-golf event will be incredible. This is where the evening concerts happen and the debauchery continues.

Tickets go fast, especially for the country singers. But there are always some trusted ticket scalpers outside the doors. If you are attending this, you want to use the tournament parking and take their buses.

After The Tournament
If you are staying in North Scottsdale and not wanting to drive down to Old Town after a long day on the course, visit the Scottsdale Quarter, which has a ton of dining options. Otherwise, hit up Old Town Scottsdale. (See party bus links below, which go from the tournament directly to Old Town Scottsdale.) For dinner and drinks, we recommend: The Mission for the best Mexican food and atmosphere in Scottsdale. Sumo Maya is Mexican Asian fusion with an electric atmosphere and is generally where the weekend party starts! Buck & Rider has amazing seafood. Partygoers will appreciate hot spots such as Bottled Blonde, El Hefe, Dakota and Hi-Fi.

Pre-Party & Ride
Boondocks Patio & Grill’s “The Canary Open” will get you a breakfast buffet, 2 drink tickets and a bus ride to and from the tournament for $49. Beverly on Main also offers a party bus on Saturday, February 4th, to which you'll need to get tickets ahead of time.
